Gathering of Quilters General Meeting, September 2009 Meeting called to order at 7:08. Minutes from last general meeting: M: Kathy Stein S: Susie Todt Miller. Approved. Budget: Approved at Board Meeting. General Meeting: M: Joyce Smith S: Carol Fleitz. Approved. Membership: Jill Holt is Chairman. Email addresses will not be published this year, due to difficulty to update. Postcards: Carol Fleitz. See Carol if you would like to take some to another group. Membership Books: Additional books are available for $2. Rhonda Kistner is printing books for new members. If you are a new member, lost your book, or would like to purchase another, see Rhonda. Challenge: “Cooking Colors” Members are challenged to create a quilted item using colors from a box, can, or bottle of food. A quilted item is defined as three layers with finished edges. Members are encouraged to take inspiration from the package. The challenge will be judged by the membership at the May, 2010 meeting. Ronald McDonald house: Candy Colleen Rudd will collect pop tabs at meetings. The group collected $19,000 last year and would like to collect $35,000 this year. Project Linus: The Lucas county chapter is designated to go to Lucas county foster children. Donations may be knit, crochet, fleece, or quilted. Things may be dropped off at Sonflower Quilts on Sylvania Ave. Website: It is the members’ responsibility to check the website. If there is something you want announced on the website, contact Peverley Hormann. Her email is pevhormann@yahoo.com. Information table: Set up at meeting. Check to see what is new. OldCountryStoreFabrics.com postcards were available. The website donated two books as raffle prizes. Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar: Cleveland, OH, April 29-May 1, 2010. The Gathering is a promotional partner. Go to RickyTims.com for more information. President Chris Olwick is willing to coordinate a group. See her for more information. Information will also be available at the November meeting. New online quilt magazine: QuiltPosium Magazine launched in September. Sewmanyplaces/quiltposium.html. Email Chris for link if you cannot find site. Discount card: Joann Fabric has 10% discount card. Show membership card to obtain discount card or go to joann website. T-shirts: Guild t-shirts will be sapphire blue, 100% cotton, guild logo embroidered in white. Cost will be $18. There will be a try-on table in November. Members may select size and order shirts at that time. This is a major fundraiser for the guild. Newsletter: Will not be mailed to entire membership. The number mailed will be limited. Hattie Kate is printing her own newsletter at $.03/page. She mailed 38 copies. Meet and mingle: Doors will open at 6 pm for members to get to know each other and mingle. Announcements: Members must contact Chris at least a week before the meeting to be on agenda. Other announcements can be made during show and tell. Canada Bus Trip: No bus will be taken. Members are driving up in small groups in individuals’ cars. Retreat: March 19-21, 2010 at Widewater Retreat Center in Liberty Center, OH. Attendees may work on personal projects. Massages are available. $50 deposit, $110 total. See Diana Lindhorst. Fat quarter raffle: 75 fat quarters. Three winners got 25 fat quarters each. 50/50 raffle: $148 total. Winner got $74.
