Gathering of Quilters General Meeting September 26, 2010 Minutes President, Colleen Florkowski, opened the meeting with a welcome to members and guests. Colleen asked for a motion to approve the May minutes. Marlene Hittler made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Ruth Woods.Billie Szymanski made a motion to approve the 2010-2011 budget, seconded by Sue Todt.Colleen made a motion to elect Kelly Jackson as Vice President, seconded by Sue Todt. There were no nominations from the floor. Hattie Kate Howell made a motion for a vote by acclamation. A vote was taken and approved. Kelly was introduced as the new Vice President.COMMITTEE REPORTS: HISTORIAN : Ruth Woods will be taking pictures and also will bring old photo albums to the bi-monthly meeting for members to view.PROGRAM : Ellie Grabarczyk is collecting ugly fabric, and she explained Mini-Demo night at the January meeting.50/50 RAFFLE : Dale Burnett was introduced as the person to see for the 50/50 raffle tickets.2011-2012 PROGRAM : Kathy Stein was introduced as chairman and asked for suggestion for speakers.FAT QUARTER RAFFLE & CHALLENGE : Beth Rohrbacher explained the collection of can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. She also stated that there would be more than one winner of the Fat Quarter raffle and how to get tickets. Putting on the Ritz challenge information was passed out to members.NEWSLETTER : Hattie Kate Howell asked that members send her names of interesting quilt books for the newsletter. If there are any additions or corrections needed to be made regarding the newsletter, contact her.PUBLICITY : Billie Szymanski had 600 post cards printed to be distributed to quilt shops and guilds. Billie also requested that if you saw a news article regarding the Gathering to bring a copy to her.DOOR PRIZES : Amy Reitzel and Cathy Frick provided 11 door prizes to be drawn at the end of the meeting.REFRESHMENTS : Wanda Dyer and Debbie Linenkugel are in charge of refreshments.MEMBERSHIP : Jill Holt reported over 80 members registered tonight. Membership cards would be available after the meeting.BLOCK OF THE MONTH : Debbie Linenkugel announced a new money making project. She showed 2 samples and 3 block of the month patterns. She will have 3 patterns available at each meeting for $3.00. The goal would be for members to make the blocks, assemble them, and possibly bring them to the next September meeting for show and tell. The money earned by selling patterns will go into the treasury.RETREAT : Diana Lindhorst reported that a definite date for the Retreat will be announced at the November meeting.PROGRAM BOOK : Rhonda Kistner made the current Program Book and it was passed out to members as they paid their dues. Colleen asked for a volunteer to make the 2011-2012 Program Book. [See correction on page 1 of this Pieceful Times.]ANNOUNCEMENTS :The Kaleidoscope of Quilts show will be held July 2011. Nancy Bussing announced she has quilt kits available if members would like to volunteer to make one or more quilts for Project Linus.Colleen recognized Mary Greeno for her 13 years of dedication to make a PROMISE QUILT every year to be raffled at The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Mary, her family and dedicated quilter friends raised more than $250,000.00 over the past 13 years. Hundreds of hours were spent by many volunteers making a quilt each year and then selling raffle tickets. Thanks Mary.Katie Jarosz announced that a small quilt show was being held at the First Presbyterian Church in Perrysburg during the Harrison Rally Days.Margie Stone announced the Monroe County Quilters Guild show is October 1st and 2nd at First Redeemer Church on Telegraph Rd. near Monroe, MI. She also mentioned a bus trip to the AQS show in Paducah, KY next April. Details will be in the newsletter.Helen Gatzke won the 50/50 raffle.Kelly Jackson announced the Toledo Needlearts Show will be at the Sanger Library. She also has a sewing machine needle exchange (dull or broken) for a free new one. One to a customer. Kelly also announced that member Theresa Howard is opening a small nonprofit shop called Blue Skies Quilting and Gifts in Perrysburg.Gretchen Schultz announced that she and her 3 partners are retiring and selling the Quilt Foundry Shop to Lisa Spalding.Following Show and Tell of Quilts made by members, Colleen introduced Garnet & Suzanne Smalley from London, Ontario, Canada. Garnet gave members a history of the international quilt shows they have had. The 2011 quilt show will be showing over 125 Hawaiian quilts. The show will be called the "London International Quilt Festival." Along with the show, there will be classes August 8-13th, 2011.
